Family Outings

It’s has been great having my brother, sister and nephew visiting Malaga. Much as we could have squeezed them into our Pinosol apartment, they were happy to arrange their own Airbnb for the seven night stay. Conveniently, their place was minutes from Plaza de la Merced.

The Gibraltar outing reported in my last blog, was just one day in a very busy week. Despite my description of the experience (or maybe because of it), Marion and Thomas launched off to Caminito del Rey on their own and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was good to compare notes – personally I would still never do it again.

We also explored Malaga Cathedral together and this included climbing the tower for stunning views of Malaga city and the marina. It’s a steep, windy climb of two hundred steps but well worth it.

Malaga has so much to offer in terms of gastronomic pleasures, so Paul and I were happy to help them enjoy the eating out experience. One of the highlights was a long Saturday stroll through El Palo and on to lunch at El Tintero. This place is a must if you love eating fish. The camareros shimmy between tables carrying plates of salads, fried fish and grilled sardines. Calling out the dish names as they pass, diners need to catch their attention if they would like one of the plates. The food was superb, the theatre of it quite extraordinary.

Sitting right on the beach, El Tintero is fun, relaxing and extremely popular with the locals. We arrived for 12:30 opening and got a nice table with a view of the sea. At this stage, they were still warming up the fire for the sardines. By 1 pm, there was a queue along the beach.

With a boat trip, various museums and time in the main Malaga market, Colin, Marion and Thomas rounded out a packed holiday. They had never visited here before, I am sure they will be back.
