Back to sunshine

We took a week away from Malaga for a long overdue visit to Ireland. Our sunny Christmas Day of 2023 here in Spain included a walk along the beach, beers on the Plaza de la Merced and turkey cooked in an airfryer. This year we stayed in Galway throughout and had a great time with family and friends, enjoying lots of lovely food and maybe a few beverages!

We returned to Malaga in time for the New Year’s Eve celebrations but once again eschewed the traditional knees up in the Plaza de la Constitución. This square, at the top of the central shopping street, is akin to Trafalgar Square in London as midnight approaches on 31st December. By all accounts, it gets rammed and I can well believe it. There are bars, live music and of course the traditional scoffing of twelve grapes – one on each stroke of midnight! To be honest, we were knackerred from a days travel and were not up for it. We bought food, some cava and saw 25 in watching the first two Home Alone movies back to back.

New Year’s Day was very bright and sunny, so we had a long stroll to El Palo. As I have no doubt described here before, there are many lovely bars and restaurants along this route. On the way back we found a bustling bar in Pedregalejo and enjoyed a couple of cervezas with some nachos in the sunshine.

Well, we have sunny weather in Reading now as well. It’s just that it’s freezing cold 🥶.
